Last week we received a slew of massive and unprecedented updates on AI advancement from Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, Mistral — and the list goes on. The amount of focus, energy, and capital spent in AI is a huge sign of inevitable changes that we will witness in coming times.
I dare to say they all go after knowledge workers' jobs in enterprises. Soon we will see the shift in the way enterprises approach hiring and integrating new employees. Every company will seek the way it can optimize and streamline their activity.
What would be the talents and skills a new knowledge worker will need to ensure a lifetime-resilient career? What are the long-lasting, never-depreciating skills?
Let me open the debate by suggesting a few:
-
Problem solving and critical thinking: Asking the right questions, analyzing complex data, and identifying underlying structures.
-
Adaptive learning and training: Being able to learn new skills rapidly and adapt to a fast-moving environment. Understanding technology depreciation and not standing on old and deprecated acquired skills.
-
AI literacy: Having the ability to work with AI, pilot the interaction, and act as a director rather than a follower. Some say prompt engineering — I would say even that will depreciate. One needs to understand how to get the maximum out of AI.
-
Interpersonal communication and collaboration: In a world where everything will run by machines, people interaction and communication is the one skill you need to amplify your presence and your impact.
-
Ethical reasoning and digital citizenship: Implementing AI in every process dehumanizes the enterprise and society. In this context we need to act responsibly and with intent not to destroy or deteriorate human culture and the diversity of our society.
